One of the things I find totally fascinating about our body is how it’s constantly repairing, renewing, and regenerating. Our stomach lining turns over every 5 days. Our skin replaces itself every few weeks, just like our lung cells do. Our red blood cells get a brand new batch every 120 days. Even our skeleton – literally, our bones – get a shiny new set every 10 years or so.
What this means, is that our body has the capacity to completely heal itself, as we go about life. Pretty, cool, ha? So you may be wondering, why then, are so many people sick and suffering with all sorts of bodily symptoms and disease?
Well, our environment plays a HUGE role in whether our body is in survival mode or healing mode. And if we’re not creating the optimal environment for our body, then it can’t do that all important healing work, its so good at.
That’s why today on I Love Me The Podcast, we’re exploring how to change our outer AND inner environment, to activate deep healing in the body.
Simple, inspiring lessons in self-love. Hello superbeing, it’s Tamra here.
If you’re body is a little, well, out of whack, not quite providing the life you want to be living, please know, you’re not alone.
Most of us were not taught how to care for our bodies in a way, that allows them to do what they do best; renew, regenerate and heal.
So it’s my intention, that by the end of this episode, you’ll have a new-found appreciation of your beautiful body, and some powerful insights into how you can start to support your body in coming back into harmony.
Because even organs that were once thought couldn’t repair — like the brain, the heart, even the spinal cord…
It’s now being discovered they can, under the right conditions, bounce back.
Our body has a phenomenal capacity to heal itself.
And I’ve seen countless cases of this kind of natural healing.
When a person is willing to listen to their body, move into communication with their body, treat their body as the wise teacher that it is, then healing can happen.
But we need to look at both the outer environment AND even more importantly, the inner environment.
And when I talk about inner environment, I’m talking about our beliefs, our emotions, our relationship with ourself.
Because honestly, that internal relationship with self, may be the most important ingredient in your healing recipe.
For our bodies aren’t just processing food — their processing our emotions, our thoughts, our beliefs.
Every single cell in your body is taking notes on what you think about life… and what you think about it.
If you tell yourself every day, ‘I’m sick, I’m broken, my body’s failing,’ guess what?
Those new cells your body’s making right now, are born into that story.
They’re like actors handed a script titled The Decline of Me — and they play the role perfectly.
But if you flip the script — start telling a story of strength, of recovery, of vibrant health — suddenly, those cells get cast in a whole new role.
And this isn’t just some magical positive thinking ‘woo woo’…
It’s biology.
Epigenetics show us that our genes are NOT set in stone.
They’re more like a piano.
Our thoughts, emotions, and lifestyle choices are the fingers pressing the keys.
And we get to choose which keys get pressed.
What I’m saying, is:
The state of our health comes about from the choices we make about how we live our life, and through the thoughts we choose to think.
And isn’t that a huge relief, if you’ve been told time and time again, that you’re a victim of your genes.
This is where we can drink all the green juice and take all the supplements in the world, but if our mind is constantly living in fear, stress, and self-criticism, we’re fighting an uphill battle.
This is why…
Chronic illness often demands not just a lifestyle change, but an emotional and mental one.
One where we’re willing to take a magnifying glass and look closely at our belief systems; the very belief systems that are running our lives.
And like I discuss in depth in Episode 2: Programmed for Love…
Most of the beliefs running your life, aren’t even yours.
They’re hand-me-downs from childhood, from society, from experiences you never got to fully process.
A moment of trauma, even something small, can become a limiting belief that shapes how you see the world — and how your body responds to it.
We don’t see the world as it is; we see it as we are.
That’s why natural healing isn’t just about doing — it’s about becoming.
Becoming more of who you are.
Through releasing all the beliefs that make you believe there is something wrong with your body, and something wrong with you…
And coming into a loving relationship with yourself.
Your whole self.
Simply imagine for a moment, that your symptoms are like the world’s most persistent smoke alarm.
When it goes off, the solution is not to smash it with a broom and pretend the fire isn’t there.
The solution is to find out what’s burning!
Pain, fatigue, anxiety — they’re all messages from your body saying:
‘Hey… something’s out of alignment here.’
So instead of fighting the messenger, try listening.
For that is what symptoms are:
They’re your bodies way of communicating to you.
Sending you a message.
The human body is an intelligent system and we must learn to speak its language.
That is at the core of natural healing.
Sometimes, what your body is asking for is simple — better hydration, more rest, nutrient-rich food.
Most times though, it’s deeper — releasing suppressed emotions, finding your voice, leaving a toxic job, letting go of past regrets.
In this way, when we’re willing to listen to what our body is trying to show us, and take time to listen, like really listen to what it’s saying…
Then we create the space for the answers to come through so we can make the necessary changes, that will support our body in doing the healing, it’s so good at doing.
Because our body naturally heals itself.
That’s what it was built to do.
But if we’re thinking negative thoughts, living in constant stress, regularly making poor food choices, or not getting enough sleep…
Then our body goes into survival mood, and it can’t trigger off that healing chemistry.
The chemistry that guides the body back into a healthy state.
In other words…
We need to be willing to get out of our bodies’ way, so we can let the healing happen organically.
We need to create an optimum environment, upon which our body is free to heal.
That’s how natural healing can take place.
So, what are the ‘right conditions’ for your body to repair itself?
Firstly, there’s no one-size-fits-all, but here are some common ways people have used now and many centuries ago, to facilitate healing in the body…
And we’ll look at the physical first, because it’s often the easiest to conceptualise and know how to action…
First…
Start by stripping back your diet and only eating whole foods.
I have a whole episode on this, it’s Episode 37: Let food Be Thy Self-Loving Medicine.
But ultimately, you only want to eat things that your great-grandparents would recognise as ‘food’.
So many items we find in the supermarket are filled with ingredients that our body simply can’t process, because they don’t come from nature.
We are nature, and when we eat chemical-free, non-modified foods, we give our body the nutrients it needs to heal and renew itself.
But when we eat unnatural products, our body has to work overtime to process all that junk.
And if it’s having to use all that energy processing and clearing out the food we essentially poison it with, then it doesn’t have the energy to heal.
So by eating a clean diet, staying well hydrated with alive, filtered water, we’re keeping our body clean, so it’s quicker to bounce back from the stresses of life.
So we can experience natural healing.
Next, is reconnecting with nature.
We can do this through the food we eat, but we can also do this by spending more time outdoors.
Walk around on the Earth barefoot.
When we do this, the Earth floods our body with antioxidants in the form of electrons, reducing inflammation and supporting the body in coming back into harmony.
Episode 52: Ditch Your Shoes And Heal Your Life, goes into the science of how this works.
Let nature help facilitate natural healing in your body.
Touch the very Earth we live on, watch the sunrise to regulate your cortisol rhythm and watch the sun set to prepare your body for a deep, restorative sleep.
This is such a powerfully healing practice to do.
Then make sure you get a good amount of sleep at the right time of night.
There is a specific window of time during the night where our body does a big cleanse, and if we aren’t asleep during that time, we miss that healing opportunity.
Take a listen to Episode 60: Sleep Like Your Life Depends On It, which will share why a 10pm bedtime is crucial in healing.
Ideally, you want to spend at least two hours outside each day.
Studies show this boosts immunity and regulates our hormones; all a part of keeping our body in good health, and helping us heal from disease and illness.
Nature time also lowers stress.
And given that stress is the biggest cause ill-health, we need to be looking at our stress levels.
So that’s the next one…
Reduce stress.
Now this is the biggie in natural healing, and I’ll probably write a whole episode on this in the future, because we need to look at this from a variety of different angles.
Are you stressed because you’re doing too much?
If so, you need to simplify your life.
Are you stressed because you have some old emotions, trauma or conditioning playing out, that keeps you in a stress-cycle?
If so, then you need to address those issues, because for most people I work with, it’s the ‘mental’ stuff, the stress-inducing thoughts and negative thinking patterns, that when worked through, create space for the body to focus on healing itself.
I’ve spoken of this before, but it deserves repeating…
I’ve had people with life-threatening conditions work through stuck emotions, and old beliefs and patterns as part of my One-on-One Intensive and Remarkable Relationships programs, and once they clear all that mental gunk, they’re body naturally comes back into health.
And these have been people who have been told they only have a certain period of time to live, or will need medication for the rest of their lives, in order to stay alive.
I’ve personally healed pre-cancerous cells in my cervix, naturally.
Eased aches and pains in my body, and brought my structure back into alignment, time and time again.
I talk about this in depth, in last week’s episode.
If you haven’t listened to that one, please do.
Episode 79: Healing Through Self-Love. When Your Body Screams, Listen.
I’ve cleared chronic acne from my skin.
Healed severe bronchitis.
And a whole range of bodily complaints and symptoms.
And the way I’ve done this, is taking time to look at my emotional and mental blocks, and do the beautiful healing work that not only sets you free emotionally, but frees up your body to heal.
If we take a look at quantum physics and epigenetics; they’re now showing us what spiritual teachers have been saying forever:
Everything is energy.
Thoughts aren’t just invisible fluff — they’re waves that influence matter.
What this means, is that you’re not a victim of your genes.
But rather, a DJ remixing your own biology.
Even the immune system listens to our thoughts.
A mind in love, gratitude, or joy releases hormones like oxytocin, dopamine, and growth hormone — all of which promote repair and regeneration.
I share how these feel good hormones work in Episode 55: The Self-Love Chemical Cocktail if you want to understand them better.
On the flip-side….
A mind stuck in fear and protection mode?
It tells the body to brace for danger instead of heal.
You can’t be in growth and protection at the same time.
And again, I share the science behind this, in Episode 40: How The Body Responds to Stress and Fear.
I highly recommend listening to the above episode that promotes natural healing, so you can get a deeper understanding of how our body responds to our thoughts, actions and behaviours.
But ultimately, what this means, is that moving from a fear state, into a more loving space isn’t just poetic — it’s physiological medicine.
When you feel love — and I mean any love, for a partner, a pet, a sunset, a song — your body releases oxytocin, the ‘bonding hormone.’
Oxytocin literally improves heart health, smooths blood vessels, aids digestion, and supports your immune system.
So when you feel loved, your biology leans into growth mode.
And growth mode is healing mode.
This is why your body feels different when you’re around people who lift you up versus people who drain you.
And when we can direct that love to ourself, then this healing increases in a huge way.
This is why self-love isn’t just about treating yourself well, it’s about living well.
It’s about activating natural healing in the body.
When you practice self-love, you’re healing your body through the very real chemicals that this love releases within you.
And when we’re willing to go on a journey with ourself, get to know ourself in a new way, where we can listen to our bodies’ messages, and adjust our life accordingly, clear out the cobwebs of shame and hurt and self-doubt, then we create the most fertile environment for our body to do what it does best.
Heal.
So yes, we want to improve our sleep, eat well, reconnect with nature, move our body, so everything inside stays lubricated and able to send energy and blood around the body to nourish our organs…
This helps promote natural healing.
But we NEED to look at the inner stuff.
We need to go to the root cause of our symptoms and release what is no longer serving us, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
And when we do, then our body has this phenomenal capacity to heal itself.
What I do want to highlight… is…
Healing isn’t always instant.
Sometimes, it’s a slow unfolding.
Other times, it’s a sudden breakthrough, happening in this very moment.
But it’s always a practice.
Just like you wouldn’t expect to get fit by going to the gym once, you can’t expect a single meditation, smoothie, or journaling session to fix years of imbalance.
And this is where love comes in again — not just for others, but for yourself.
Treat your body like your best friend, because it is.
Listen to it, feed it well, let it rest, and speak kindly to it.
And if you can’t find it within you to speak kindly to it, seek out the therapists or programs that will support you in learning ‘how’.
Because your body is the smartest, most loyal, most hard-working friend you will ever have.
So it’s time to start treating as such.
What’s important to know, is this:
You are not your illness.
Your spirit, your True Self, is whole, complete, and untouched by disease.
And when you can reconnect with that truth, your body can follow.
This is how natural healing takes place.
So here’s what I want you to take from today:
Sickness is feedback from the body that we are living a life that is out of alignment in some way.
Sickness then is not something to fix, but a conversation to be entered into.
Your body is in a constant state of renewal.
You are literally not the same person you were a year ago — physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
You have the power to influence the quality of the ‘new you’ that’s being built right now.
So if you’ve been carrying labels like ‘I’m sick,’ ‘I’m broken,’ ‘I’m weak’ — I encourage you to put them down.
They’re heavy.
As comfortable and familiar as they may be, they’re not helping.
Instead, start a new story.
Maybe it’s:
‘I’m overflowing with joy.’
‘I feel energised and alive.’
‘I’m grateful for my perfect health.’
Create a mantra that focuses on what you want to be experiencing in your body.
Then repeat that mantra daily.
Speak it like it’s already true.
Because like I share in Episode 77 — The Magic of Mantras — your cells are listening.
And if you can not only say those words, but feel them in your body — conjure up the emotion of this phrase, you accelerate your healing capacity.
Because how you feel, is how you heal.
So if you’re listening to this episode and wondering where do I start?
Start where you can.
Where feels doable right now.
And then build from there, knowing that healing is a practice.
Where we get to practise being healthy.
But if you’d like someone to guide you through that healing journey, please reach out.
My One-on-One Intensive is where I personally guide you on how to activate healing in your body.
I’ll pop a link to to this program in the show-notes, along with my Remarkable Relationships course, which is beautiful self-study program, where I teach you how to become your very own healer.
But where-ever you go from here, it’s important you understand the true healing capacity of your body.
For it’s not just in your tissues, your organs, or your cells…
It’s in you.
