Simple, inspiring lessons in self-love. Welcome back, beautiful soul!
Today, we’re exploring something incredibly simple yet profoundly powerful—mantras.
If you’ve ever felt stuck in self-doubt, struggled with negative thoughts, or just wanted to feel more at peace, this episode is for you.
Because words hold energy.
And the words we repeat—whether consciously or unconsciously—shape our reality.
So…
What exactly is a mantra, and how can using one help you shift your mindset, reprogram your beliefs, and align with the life you truly desire?
Well…
At its core, a mantra is a word or phrase you repeat, to focus your mind and shift your energy.
The word ‘mantra’ comes from Sanskrit, meaning instrument of the mind.
It’s a tool that helps you rewire your thoughts and return to a state of inner peace, self-love, and clarity.
Some mantras are ancient, like the well-known Om or Sat Nam, used in meditation.
Others are simple affirmations, like:
I am worthy of love.
Everything is unfolding for my highest good.
I trust myself and my path.
The key is that a mantra isn’t just something you say—it’s something you feel.
The more you embody it, the more it becomes part of your reality.
Now you may be wondering…
Why Do Mantras Work?
You’ve probably noticed that your mind loves to repeat thoughts on a loop—many of which aren’t very kind.
These subconscious patterns are often picked up in childhood, reinforced by society, and shape how we see ourselves and our world.
I go into depth on these thoughts in Episode 2: Programmed For Love.
I highly recommend having a listen because this episode will give you a clear understanding of why you think the thoughts you think, and where they came from.
So we have these icky thoughts that tend to play on repeat.
And these thoughts are generally not self-serving.
But here’s the beautiful thing—your mind is malleable.
You can shift those patterns, and mantras help you do exactly that.
When you repeat a mantra, you’re doing two things:
Firstly, you’re interrupting negative thought loops and replacing them with something empowering.
Secondly, you’re training your subconscious to accept this new belief as truth.
And science backs this up!
Studies on neuroplasticity show that the brain forms new neural pathways based on repetition.
So the more you repeat a mantra, the more your brain rewires itself to align with that belief.
Now there are quicker ways to change a belief and a thought pattern, than repeating mantras, and I teach this technique in my Remarkable Relationships course.
Once my clients learn this technique, they can shift beliefs in under an hour, sometimes in minutes, without the need to repeat mantras.
But if you don’t have these skills right now, using mantras is a really great starting point.
As long, as you’re:
Using Mantras Effectively
There are a few things you want to know about inviting mantras into your daily life, to ensure they’re working their magic on your subconscious mind.
Let me step you through these things now:
1. Choose a mantra that resonates deeply with you.
The mantra should feel true or at least like something you want to be true.
If for example, ‘I am enough’ doesn’t sit well yet, use a mantra you can get behind, something like ‘I’m learning to believe in my worth.’
2. Say it with emotion.
The power of a mantra comes from the feeling behind it.
Say it as if you already believe it, with warmth and conviction.
3. Repeat your mantra daily.
Or multiple times per day, because…
Repetition is key.
Try saying your mantra in the morning, during meditation, or whenever doubt creeps in.
Especially when doubt creeps in.
Let your mantra be the tool you use to interrupt those negative thoughts.
4. Write your mantra down.
Place it where you’ll see it—on your mirror, phone screen, or journal.
The more you expose yourself to it, the deeper it sinks in.
5. Pair your mantra with your breath.
Inhale, say the first part of your mantra… exhale, say the second part.
For example: Inhale: I am enough… Exhale: Just as I am.
This helps your nervous system absorb the message even more deeply.
It’s like you’re anchoring the words to your body, which is so powerful.
Let me share a quick story about how mantras changed my life.
Years ago, I struggled with deep self-doubt.
If you’ve listened to Episode 32: Bye Bye Blues… you’ll know I experienced severe clinical depression, so let’s just say my mind-chatter wasn’t so friendly back then.
I also share the specific steps I took to overcome the depression in this moving episode.
Back then…
I felt unworthy of love, unworthy of success, and even unworthy of happiness.
No matter what I did, a little voice in my head, consistently told me I wasn’t good enough.
So before I learnt how to clear those beliefs and thoughts at the root cause, I relied on mantras.
I started using one simple mantra:
I love and accept myself exactly as I am.
At first, it felt strange.
I didn’t believe it.
But I kept saying it—every morning, every night, every time I caught my mind spiralling.
And slowly, something shifted.
I felt different.
My actions started aligning with my mantra.
I made healthier choices.
I started to attract in the people and books and support I needed, to shift my mindset.
But most importantly…
I started trusting myself.
And that’s the thing about mantras—they create small shifts that, over time, lead to massive transformations.
OK…
Your Turn!
Let’s Create Your Personal Mantra
Here’s how:
Think about an area of your life, or a thinking pattern that needs a little love.
Then…
Choose a simple, positive statement that reflects what you want to have happening in that area.
Or what you want to believe.
So not what you currently believe or currently have, but what you want your new belief to be.
Make sure it’s in the present tense.
You don’t want to say ‘I will be confident’ but rather, ‘I am confident’.
Then start using it daily… and watch how gently, day-by-day, that new belief starts to become more and more believable.
Mantras really are a powerful way to shift your mindset, cultivate self-love, and help you step into your most authentic self.
And the best part?
They’re so simple.
A few words.
A few moments.
And they have a ripple effect that can change the whole trajectory of your life.
