Low Libido in Women
A Holistic Guide to Reawakening Your Sexual Energy
Low libido in women is incredibly common, yet it’s something many women struggle to talk about openly.
A loss of libido can feel confusing, frustrating, and even a little heartbreaking.
You might wonder:
What happened to the part of me that used to feel desire?
Is this just what happens with age?
Can my body ever feel pleasure again?
The truth is — low libido in women is far more common than most people realise, and in many cases it is not permanent.
Often it simply means sexual energy has become stagnant in the body.
When that energy begins flowing again, desire, sensation and pleasure return naturally.
This guide will help you understand:
• Why low libido happens in women
• How pelvic tension blocks sexual energy
• How meridian philosophy explains sexual vitality
• Why vaginal tissues can lose sensitivity
• Practical ways to awaken your body again
Most importantly, it will remind you of something powerful:
Pleasure is still available to you — at any age.
What Causes Low Libido in Women?
Many people assume low sex drive is purely hormonal.
But libido is influenced by many interconnected factors including energy flow, emotional safety, body awareness and nervous system health.
From a holistic perspective, low libido in women often occurs when sexual energy becomes stagnant or blocked in the body.
Several common factors contribute to this.
Pelvic Tension from Sitting
Modern life involves a lot of sitting — at desks, in cars and on couches.
Over time this creates tightness in the hips, groin and pelvic floor, reducing circulation and restricting energy flow through the pelvic region.
When the pelvis becomes tense, sexual sensation can dull and libido may decrease.
Sexual Shame and Conditioning
Many women grow up receiving messages that sexuality is:
• Inappropriate
• Shameful
• Dangerous
• Something to suppress
These beliefs don’t just live in the mind — they live in the body.
The pelvis often holds emotional tension connected to these beliefs, leading to numbness or disconnection from sexual feeling.
Past Trauma or Negative Sexual Experiences
If the body has experienced fear, pressure or emotional pain around sex, the nervous system may close down sensation as a protective mechanism.
This isn’t failure.
It’s the body trying to stay safe.
With gentle reconnection practices, sensation and libido can gradually return.
Stress and Nervous System Overload
When the body is constantly in fight-or-flight mode, survival takes priority over pleasure.
Sexual energy thrives in relaxed, safe environments.
Without that safety, low libido in women becomes much more likely.
Signs of Low Libido in Women
Low libido doesn’t always show up as a complete loss of desire. For many women it appears more subtly.
Common signs include:
• Little or no interest in sexual intimacy
• Difficulty becoming aroused
• Reduced vaginal sensitivity
• Vaginal dryness
• Feeling disconnected from the pelvic area
• Difficulty reaching orgasm
• Lack of spontaneous sexual thoughts
These experiences are far more common than many women realise.
In many cases they simply indicate that sexual energy in the body has become stagnant and needs to be reawakened.
Understanding Female Libido Through Meridian Philosophy
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, sexual vitality is closely linked to the Kidney meridian.
The Kidney system governs:
• Life force energy (Qi)
• Reproductive vitality
• Hormonal balance
• Sexual drive
When energy moves smoothly through the body’s meridian pathways, sexual energy flows naturally and libido is strong.
But when stagnation builds — especially in the pelvis — desire can diminish.
Practices that restore movement to the hips, breath and pelvic floor help reopen these pathways so energy can circulate again.
When this happens many women notice:
• Warmth returning to the pelvis
• Increased vaginal sensitivity
• Spontaneous desire returning
• Deeper emotional connection to pleasure
Vaginal Dryness and Loss of Sensitivity
Another contributor to low libido in women is reduced vaginal sensitivity.
Over time the vaginal canal can become:
• Dry
• Less elastic
• Less responsive to touch
This may occur due to:
• Reduced circulation
• Hormonal changes
• Friction-based sex without full arousal
• Long periods without stimulation
• Disconnection or lack of pelvic awareness
The vaginal tissue is highly responsive to gentle stimulation and circulation.
When blood flow improves, the tissues often become more hydrated, responsive and alive again.
Reawakening the Vaginal Tissues
One of the most powerful ways to restore sensitivity is through gentle internal awareness practices.
This includes:
• Pelvic floor relaxation
• Breathwork into the pelvis
• Gentle vaginal massage
• Jade Egg practices
The Jade Egg practice has been used for centuries to support pelvic vitality.
It works by:
• Increasing blood flow to the vaginal tissues
• Strengthening and relaxing the pelvic floor
• Restoring sensitivity and awareness
• Awakening sexual energy in a gentle, embodied way
You can read more about the Jade Egg here.
Rather than focusing purely on performance or orgasm, practices that use a Jade Egg helps women reconnect with their body’s natural pleasure pathways.
Why Breast Awakening Matters Too
Many women are surprised to learn that the breasts are energetically linked to sexual arousal.
In meridian theory, the Kidney meridian — connected to sexual vitality — runs through the breasts.
This means breast stimulation and massage can:
• Increase circulation
• Awaken nerve endings
• Stimulate sexual energy
• Reconnect a woman to pleasure
Breast awareness practices also help counteract the effects of tight bras and restricted chest breathing, which can dull sensation over time.
And when sexual play begins with breast massage, as opposed to going straight down south, this helps create a more juicy, more pleasure-rich experience in the bedroom.

How Women Can Increase Libido Naturally
Many women want to increase libido naturally without medication.
Some of the most effective approaches include:
• Improving circulation to the pelvic region
• Reducing pelvic tension
• Practising breathwork
• Awakening breast and vaginal sensitivity
• Releasing emotional blocks connected to sexuality
• Reconnecting with the body through movement and awareness
When the body feels safe, relaxed and energised, sexual desire often returns naturally.
Simple Ways to Begin Reawakening Libido
You don’t need complicated rituals to start reconnecting with your sexual energy.
Small daily practices can make a profound difference.
Breathe into your pelvis
Instead of shallow chest breathing, allow your breath to soften and expand into your lower belly and pelvic bowl.
This helps move life-force energy through the body.
Move your hips daily
Pelvic movement improves circulation and releases tension.
Try:
• Slow hip circles
• Figure-eight movements
• Gentle pelvic rocking
• Dancing or shaking the hips
Massage your groin
The groin (where the legs meet the pelvis) often becomes tight.
Gentle massage for 5–10 minutes daily can improve circulation to the pelvic organs.
Awaken your breasts
Spend time touching and massaging the breasts slowly to increase sensation and stimulate sexual energy pathways.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Can low libido in women return naturally?
Yes. In many cases libido returns when underlying causes such as pelvic tension, stress, emotional blocks or circulation issues are addressed. I see this all the time inside my programs Yoga for the Vagina and Sexual Self, where women are surprised by how quickly they can start to feel again, and how with ongoing practice, they start to experience pleasure far beyond what they could have expected.
Q2: Can women regain libido after menopause?
Absolutely. Sexual energy is not limited by age. Many women experience deeper pleasure later in life once they reconnect with their bodies. Yes, hormones are real. But your hormones are responding to the connection you have with your pelvis. Once that pelvic reconnection is restored, then your body will wake up again.
Q3: Is low libido always hormonal?
Hormones can play a role, but emotional, energetic and lifestyle factors often contribute significantly. If you’ve experienced sexual or birth trauma for instance, this can greatly impact your libido. Or if you do a lot of sitting, and less movement throughout your day, this will also contribute to that lack of libido. I share how to overcome these challenges inside both of my programs.
Q4: Is it normal for a woman to never have an orgasm?
Yes. Many women reach adulthood without ever experiencing orgasm, especially if they were never taught how to connect with their body’s natural pleasure responses. This doesn’t mean something is wrong. It usually means the body has not yet been given the conditions it needs to fully open to sensation and pleasure. With the right practices and a gentle approach, many women discover that pleasure and orgasm are far more accessible than they once believed.
Q5: What’s the difference between Yoga for the Vagina and Sexual Self?
Yoga for the Vagina consists of teachings and guided yoga practices that often use the Jade Egg to help awaken the pelvis and whole body to sensation. Once this energy flow is restored, this creates deep inner healing, which is why many women use this course to overcome pelvic health challenges such as incontinence, fibroids and vaginismus. These practices are very much solo practices.
Sexual Self, on the other hand, does introduce you to some basic yoga practices that use the Jade Egg, but there is a greater focus on partner work, and self-play exercises if you don’t have a partner, so you can go deeper into sexual intercourse. This is a sexual healing and pleasure course that is designed to be shared with a partner, so you can journey deep into orgasmic bliss together.
A Final Note
If you’ve experienced low libido, please know this:
Nothing is wrong with you.
Your body may simply be asking for attention, softness and reconnection.
Sexual energy is not something we manufacture.
It is something we allow to move.
And when we gently release the tension, conditioning and stagnation that block it, the body often remembers how to feel again.
Pleasure is still available to you.
At any age.
Your body has not forgotten — it may simply be waiting to be rediscovered.
